Unfortunately, most of the models were not sustainable and ultimately only a chosen few were left in the fray, and apart from tremendous valuations, today they command the respect and jealous admiration of their brick n’ mortar counterparts.
On a positive note, lessons were learnt and today, almost every organization worth its salt spends a considerable part of their IT budget on using applications and software that utilize the Internet to conduct regular business transactions. With the advent of ASP based service models, entry barriers in terms of initial capital investment have greatly reduced and today the grocery shop down the road can compete with the supermarkets of the world, if it chooses to.
